You’re f**king who?

February 29, 2008

See what Amy found (I know, we’re probably like six months behind the rest of the internet…but this is damn funny). Oh yeah, we are HUGE Josh Groban fans…

And, of course, the original…

Stuff White People Like

February 29, 2008

Heard about this three times from three different people today (all white, by the way), so figured it would be worth checking out.

Spin this Black Circle…

A new addicting game to play. And blow up. And play. And blow up.

American promsies and realities

February 29, 2008

Gotta love the Boss man…this blog quotes Bruce in a USA Today interview. Here’s my favorite line: “We’ve lived through such ugly times that people want to have a romance with the idea of America again, and I think they need to.”

Junior High? Guess I’m writing for the Lowest Common Denominator

blog readability test

Phew! Check me out. I’m smarter than a 5th grader (“I thought Europe was a country”).

I actually came across something like this earlier in the year for our school newspaper. The reading level is determined by the length of your sentences and the “bigness” of your words (I think…if I’m wrong, someone please correct me). Looks like, if you teach 11th grade long enough, you internalize “simple.”

Hey, I don’t need to feel smart. More people should “get” what I write. (I hope.)

Challenging Education Week on Journalistic Standards…

February 27, 2008

I haven’t read the whole letter yet, but I applaud those who are not afraid to stand and and call “entities” on their mistakes. It’s about time.  Thanks to James Crawford for his post.

Virgin Births? Dragons? Huh?

February 24, 2008

An editorial observer in today’s NY Times discusses the abilitites of some females to “reproduce” without a male partner, and then poses the (obvious?) question: So, if they can do this, who needs males? (Don’t worry, an answer is given.)

AN interesting read about biodiversity and reproduction. And dragons. Don’t forget the dragons.

Do we need to restructure education?

February 24, 2008

A very interesting article from Malaysia. This “academic” has re-thought the educational process top-to-bottom. Contrary to what I’ve read elsewhere, the author de-emphasizes science and math skills early on in favor of encouraging creative thinking and a joy of learning.

An Ex Libris Challenge for all of us?

February 23, 2008
I have always wanted to “expand” my reading horizons, and I stumbled across this “contest” that seems to fit the mold perfectly! The site contains a reading list…

Our first four dog’s names

February 22, 2008

Amy and I have dog names planned out (aren’t you excited?):

  1. Dingus (found on Trivia Pursuit card for Jesse James – it was his nickname)
  2. Ginger (pronounced like “finger”)
  3. Murfin (evidently a street in Ann Arbor)
  4. King Babbot (the director of photography in the really bad, but totally influential childhood movie, The Last Starfighter)
